On the last working day before the school breaks for the winter holidays, The Kalyani School hosts their signature event, the most awaited ‘Mad About…’ series. This year, the Kalyaniites went ‘Mad About India’. Right from the beginning of the year, as soon as the students were allotted the particular states they had to work on, they started with their preliminary research work. The teachers prepared a timeline, and keeping that in view, the projects took shape gradually, over the months. The students of Grades Jr. K.G. till VIII, created models, charts, diagrams, prototypes and more, representing their assigned states. There were several classes too, in which the students engaged in discussions and debates, learning more every day, leading to the Grand Finale, on the 23rd of December. The students of Grades IX - XII, participated in a different way, but with equal zeal and enthusiasm. Instead of an exhibition, they organized stalls to sell food, artefacts and handicraft goods, representing their allotted states. The colourful display brightened up the school ground, and attracted numerous excited visitors. The most unique part of the entire initiative was that a part of the proceeds from the stalls, was donated eagerly by the students towards charity. This was an experiential learning, which helped them in understanding the value of money, and also gave them the satisfaction of knowing that they had made a difference in the lives of someone, who needed them.
The cultural programmes designed for the event, added colour and verve to the day. The takeaways for the visitors and guests were significant, and they had only appreciation for the initiative taken by the school, to arrange the event. The students too had a very exciting day, learning, participating in the programmes and interacting with their peers. At the end of the day, it can be said that, the objective of ‘Mad About India’ was well met, justifying all the efforts and time invested in it.
